Review: The IN:NYC Card from American Express® is designed for those with good credit who live in or frequently visit New York City and plan to take advantage of the various benefits and participating services that are in New York City. In reference to the reward program, one INSIDE Rewards point is earned for every dollar spent on general purchases. Double points are awarded for every dollar spent on "City Essentials", which include newspaper and magazine subscriptions, movies, dining, cell phone services, cable and dial-up ISP subscriptions, and gym memberships. Points can be redeemed for benefits and experiences based in New York City, such as free hotel stays, dining, and airline travel. An added benefit is that points earned never expire and have no yearly limit. Perhaps what is most impressive about the program is the Tuesdays IN:NYC program. Cardholders can use the card at select participating merchants, such as Nickel, Oasis Day Spa, Zabar's, Jean Paul Gaultier, and J&R Music Computer World on any Tuesday and get 10% off their purchase. The IN:NYC Card also provides cardholders with Priority access to venues, such as Irving Plaza and membership discounts at the Guggenheim Museum. Aside from the reward program, this card offers a variety of standard benefits that include travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, discounts, and various fraud protection services with each usage (see website for all benefits available). The interest rate for purchases is considered reasonably low (for a reward card) and there is no annual fee. There is also a 0% introductory rate for purchases and balance transfers for the first six months. Therefore, those who can afford to pay in full each month after the introductory rate expires (to avoid finance charges), frequently stay or live in New York City (to earn additional points), and can accumulate enough points for dining and entertainment experiences will benefit most from what the IN:NYC Card from American Express® has to offer.
